Each year the Upper Peninsula Children's Coalition hosts a training workshop along with its annual meeting. Awards are presented to the "Agency of the Year" and "Individual of the Year" who have best demonstrated the objectives of the UPCC. Each member agency also nominates a direct service worker to receive a "Direct Service Award" at the conference.
Dr. Hayward has helped over 6,997 patients by providing dental services to uninsured, Medicaid, and low income people through Dental Clinics North. He has pioneered outreach programs to provide preventive dental care to children. He continues to serve the needs of the uninsured and children in the Upper Peninsula.
Connie first began her career teaching elementary and high school art programs in Chicago. Connie served for 28 years at Marquette General Health Systems helping youth, adults and families with chemical dependency issues. For the past 10 years, Connie in the past has served as director of outpatient behavioral health/addiction services including the oversight of clinics in SSM, Escanaba, Iron Mountain and Houghton. In her career, Connie developed an in-patient unit for adolescents, led weekend retreats for families and advanced practice in the area of co-occurring disorders.
Connie has served for the past five years, in a national role as Project WEAVE’s Treatment Fellow for the Reclaiming Futures initiative and on Project WEAVE’s Executive Board. Connie has volunteered hundreds of hours and has traveled extensively across the U.S. conducting presentations or attending meetings and conferences regarding best-practices and evidenced-based treatment models for youth with substance abuse and/or co-occurring concerns.
The Boys and Girls Club of Menominee County has served youth in the area since 1915. It is one of the oldest Boys and Girls Clubs in the country. Recently they have moved into a larger facility where youth now have access to a woodshop, computer lab and ham radio station. At the club, after-school programming is offered to youth including ongoing community dances and spring/summer break activities. The Boys and Girls Club serves approximately 1,600 youth annually.
