Upper Peninsula Childrens Coalition

More About the U.P. Children's Coalition

The Upper Peninsula Children's Coalition (UPCC) began in 1986 when a small group of human services agencies met to examine the needs for additional training and resources in the region. From this core group of eight agencies, the UPCC has grown into a voluntary organization composed of over fifty members today. The membership is concerned about the delivery of services to children and families in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Our primary purpose is to examine existing services to children, review and take positions on proposed legislation affecting youth, support communication and training regarding young people's issues, and be active in the support of prevention initiatives.

Some of the functions that the UPCC provide are:

  • Collect and analyze children's data
  • Identify and implement strategies to further the Coalition's objectives
  • Insure comprehensive UP involvement in the organization
  • Identify and promote a comprehensive care continuum and strive to cover "unmet needs"
  • Provide a forum for children's concerns
  • Establish working communication with all Upper Peninsula legislators
  • Coordinate advocacy for youth
  • Develop joint training resources and engage in educational activities
  • Conduct a yearly UP conference on children's issues
  • Help plan meetings and programs for the general membership and other persons
  • Assist with keeping abreast of local Human Service Coordinating Bodies
